Set 2 - Managing a document: Version change

Pharmaceutical English: managing SOP version changes

When can a revised SOP be used?

Imagine that a manufacturing process has changed and the corresponding SOP has already been revised. Production would like to start using the new process tomorrow.

Can they go ahead?

Before answering, you need more information. The revised document may exist, but that does not necessarily mean it is ready to use. It may still be under review, waiting for approval or connected to training that has not been completed.

You could explain the situation like this:

The revised SOP has been prepared, but it has not been approved yet. Training must also be completed before the new process is implemented.

This answer is clear and neutral. It does not blame Quality, Production or Document Control. It simply explains the current status and what needs to happen next.

During a real meeting, you may also need to ask:

Which version is currently effective?

Has the new version been approved?

Have the obsolete copies been withdrawn?

When will the training be completed?

These questions help the team build a realistic implementation plan instead of maki
